Main Purpose of the Role

Must Haves

Key Accountabilities

Customer Service

Effective and efficient planning of the sub-contractor activity throughout the year by:

  • Strong and clear communication of customers’ requirements to the sub-contractor both verbally and in writing
  • Promptly answering telephone and email enquiries in a professional manner
  • Speaking to the third parties and/customers to understand any concerns with any delivery or planning activities
  • Working with customers to understand their demands for short and long-term planning activities
  • Entry of all movements of jobs onto the relevant systems
  • Reporting any concerns to the transport / customer services manager
  • Working in tandem with the other teams such as warehouse and transport teams to understand sub-contractor requirements
  • Raising any concerns over delivery with other internal teams and providing solutions for resolution
  • Investigating and solving pre and post departure customer escalations and issues
  • Maintain good levels of communication
  • Plan and communicate effective handovers during absence to ensure that there is a clear plan and line of communication/reporting should any questions arise

Cost control

Minimise cost through effective and robust processes and practices to ensure the customer demands are met and communicated correctly.

Reduce subcontracting costs by searching for the most up to date costings from the relevant area of the UK and reduce costs by maintaining excellent levels of communication with subcontractors.

Production of subcontracting stats – profit excluding fuel surcharge

Communication

Monitor the previous day’s collections and deliveries to provide information and communicate to relevant internal/external customers. Liaise with internal/external stakeholders to advise them of issues or delays along with planned corrective action, to maintain a two-way communication flow and minimise customer issues.  All the above should be in a timely manner to better manage and prevent escalation of issues.

Teamwork        

Encouraging teamwork within the workplace by displaying the correct behaviours towards all members of the Knowles Logistics Ltd teams

Pallet Network Planner

Working with the planning team to ensure effective running of the day to day Knowles Logistics Pallet Network fleet. Minimum of 2 years’ experience  in a fast paced transport or logistics environment. Operator licencing awareness along with up to date knowledge of compliance such as gross weights, construction an use regulations, Working Time Directive and EU Drivers hours. PC literate – Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint, Traffic management and warehouse management systems along with any other IT/ web based systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills along with excellent customer service skills. Highly organised, self-sufficient and as well as working as part of a team, have the ability to work on own initiative and to tight deadlines. Transport Planner/Operator

Due to continued expansion, we are looking to recruit additional transport planners to ensure the effective running of the Knowles Logistics fleet. Planning and managing effective movement of freight around the country, including providing strong planning of the operational logistics arm of the business. Effective communication with the customer service team to meet the demands of the customer and providing the best customer service possible to internal and external stakeholders.

Fleet / Driver management

Ensure the effective running of the Knowles fleet through:

  • Allocation of 100% of the daily plan against all drivers and loads
  • Following and updating the execution of the daily plan including systems updates
  • Maximising drivers workers hours within the Tachograph and WTD framework
  • Making decisions on how many vehicles are required to deliver shipments
  • Communication of any issues or failures that are unavoidable to the relevant customer/representative including out of hours communication
  • Proactive management of the fleet – including making changes and replanning any issues with loads or drivers
  • Communication of the plan to all drivers to ensure the drivers are all in place at the correct times to collect loads and deliver them
  • Briefing and debriefing of drivers on the current day/night plans
  • Working in tandem with the driver debrief administrators
  • Ensuring completion of a thorough handover to the next transport operators on the following shift
  • Attending daily operational meetings on a rota basis with timely information about the previous and current days plan
  • Working together with the planners to achieve the customer requirements
  • Working out costs of delivery and monitoring revenue on a day to day basis
  • Reviewing load plans and looking at contingency strategies where necessary
  • Entry of all movements of jobs onto the relevant PC and web based systems
  • Reporting any concerns to the Head of Transport
  • Working in tandem with the other transport operators within the team on the same shift and on other shifts
  • Raising any concerns over delivery with other teams and providing solutions for resolution

Systems

  • Entering driver and vehicle information of the daily plan into Road Runner for the following 24 hours
  • Updating Road Runner with live load information when debriefing drivers in person or over the phone
  • Understanding and checking the warehouse management system to foresee any issues with loads

Cost control

  • Minimise overtime, nights out and demurrage. Reduce agency labour through effective planning of driver and vehicle usage

Customer Service

  • Answering telephone in a professional manner and dealing with field and customer enquiries.
  • Speaking to drivers to understand their issues and offer resolutions in planning the management of their loads.
  • Portraying a professional appearance and manner at all times as a representative of Knowles Logistics

Teamwork

The Role:

Supporting the Shift Supervisor and Warehouse Manager with effective management and supervision of the shifts operations, including distribution of workload for all Warehouse Operatives including agency labour that is allocated to the operation.

Requirements:

    • Ensure warehouse supervisor is kept informed of all operational issues, in particular those that may lead to service disruption or non-delivery.
    • Ensure that the Company’s health and safety policies and guidelines are adhered to.
    • To achieve the expected hourly output as determined by the site daily volumes.
    • To control the reworking of stock and the decanting of containers as and when required.
    • To control the accuracy of receiving, picking and dispatch.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Providing high standard of customer service and relations to customers and suppliers, ensuring compliance with their site rules and regulations at all times
  • Liaising with the Transport desk to make them aware of any potential difficulties or any variations from original brief
  • Ensuring that the vehicle is driven at all times with the utmost concern for other road users, pedestrians and the local environments through which you travel
  • To accurately complete all documentation required by the Company and the customer
